Summary/Objective

This position will drive value across PLC by helping lead and manage PLC's safety and risk programs in both the U.S. and Canada. The Assistant Risk Manager supports the growth of the organization by collaborating with business partners to provide safety and risk support, including training as well as offering more efficient solutions and tools to minimize risk. The Assistant Risk Manager also assists in identifying, evaluating and managing events which arise out of PLC's business assets, operations and products/services provided that could (a) damage or destroy PLC property; (b) interrupt PLC's business; (c) cause injury to the general public or employees of PLC; and/or (d) subject PLC and its employees to legal liability. This is an in-the-office position.

Essential Functions

  • Helps administer corporate risk management procedures, policies, records, practices and controls for PLC and its internal clients.
  • Reviews PLC safety programs to ensure OSHA and related compliance along with best practices.
  • In partnership with brokers, provides analysis regarding PLC's risk management and insurance needs, which includes, but is not limited to, general and professional liability, property, directors & officers liability, employment practices liability, worker's compensation and automobile liability.
  • Gathers data and assist with completion of new/renewal applications within required timeframes.
  • Calculates premium allocations, premium estimates, and conduct policy audits.
  • Ensures necessary insurance documents are received and available such as binders, certificates of insurance, policies, etc.
  • Serves as a liaison between insurance companies and PLC individuals during the investigation of certain incidents that may result in loss.
  • Ensures proper reporting of claims.
  • Coordinates worker's compensation claims, including collaborating with Human Resources on leave requirements, maintaining an active back to work program, and minimizing return to work delays.
  • Implements/reviews loss control measures to reduce claims frequency and claim costs.
  • Utilizes information systems and processes to provide meaningful claims metrics to business partners to assist in the improvement of accident/incident rates.
  • Coordinates and participates in quarterly claims reviews with key stakeholders.
  • Manages certificate of insurance process for all third-party vendors of Company.
  • Manages US vehicle fleet program and related insurance.
  • When requested, advises on insurance-related contract terms and conditions, including due diligence review of potential acquisitions and dispositions and other transactions or scenarios which give rise to risk.
  • Prepares documents and review training materials to foster a culture of workplace safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Minimum of five to ten years of experience in a similar role for a national or international company.
  • Functional knowledge of insurance program structures.
  • Functional knowledge of OSHA and related regulatory frameworks for workplace safety.
  • OSHA 30 certification or ability to acquire within six months of date of hire.
  • Ability to understand and analyze risk exposure and propose programs and policies to minimize liability exposure.
  • Minimum of five years' direct experience in claims handling.
  • Proven record of reducing workers' compensation, automobile liability, general liability, and property claims.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
  • Valid state issued driver's license in good standing and acceptable driving record.
  • Able to read, write and speak English fluently. Bilingual is a plus.
