The Category Manager is a senior individual contributor position that reports to the Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing. The right candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced competitive and changing environment, while effectively collaborating and communicating in alignment with the Cox culture. Primary responsibility will be to develop and execute comprehensive category strategies using significant subject matter expertise and knowledge of the industry in one or more categories for IT capital and operating expenditures.
Purpose (Overall Accountability)
  • Owns the development, execution and management of category strategies and supplier management for IT categories, specifically in managing large enterprise IT software agreements as well as the procurement of IT hardware and network hardware maintenance and support.
  • Responsible for the coaching, mentoring and development of critical and strategic suppliers.
  • Champions change to drive alignment of sourcing, procurement and supplier management strategies for the benefit of the company and the business.
  • Sets the example for doing the right thing through personal and professional behaviors of honesty, integrity, keeping commitments, and valuing others.
  • Responsible for developing and planning programs designed to continuously improve supplier performance, optimize the supplier base, and optimize addressable spend/cost within the categories, while balancing the needs and desired business results of business and boundary partners. Results and benefits are measured across financial and operational dimensions, including supplier total cost of ownership and contract compliance.
  • Responsible for enabling delivery of annual savings, diversity spend and operational improvement targets.
  • Responsible for compliance of suppliers and contracts with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Accountable for ensuring proper onboarding/offboarding, compliance, performance planning, coaching and evaluation of suppliers in accordance with corporate supply chain policies and procedures.
Major Tasks
  • Develop, implement and maintain category strategies and plans in the following categories of spend: IT software and network hardware purchases including maintenance and support.
  • Provide input to sourcing executives on decisions for the IT area of capital and operational expenditures in conjunction with business stakeholders and boundary partners.
  • Responsible for the development of annual category strategies and plans for assigned categories, which will include market and baseline analysis, supplier capability assessments, business need assessment against available spend, and industry benchmarking.
  • Participate in the development of supplier acquisition/management strategies for function, region and department business and boundary partners.
  • Develop and maintain broad product and industry knowledge of trends and best-in-class practices for assigned categories.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of suppliers at a national and global level to ensure a pipeline of available suppliers, opportunity identification, and business case development.
  • Recommend new category strategies, process improvements and supplier relationship structures for the division.
  • Design and lead the implementation of improvements, modifications, or adaptations to category and supplier management techniques.
  • Responsible for incorporating diversity and sustainability initiatives of the Enterprise and Division into category and supplier management practices.
  • Manage current supplier relationships at the supply chain level and develop transition strategy for termination/renewal in conjunction with business and boundary partners.
  • Manage escalations involving critical and strategic suppliers within assigned categories and drive resolution.
  • May participate in negotiation of escalated/highly-critical contracts and projects as needed.
  • Supports business and boundary partners in supplier escalations and management/issue resolution.
  • Develop effective and collaborative relationships with key business stakeholders and boundary partners.
  • Present and communicate to business partner leadership regarding current state of categories and suppliers.
  • Integrate with Technology Governance & Technology Finance teams to ensure alignment with Technologys strategic plans in IT software.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Minimum 5 years of business/operational experience in related category and at least 2 years related experience in a Strategic Sourcing/ Supply Chain capacity.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and take necessary actions to continuously improve our value proposition for our customers.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Career history of success and advancing to increased responsibility and scope.
  • Proven experience in category strategy/management and Supplier Relationship Management.
  • Recognized for subject matter expertise in one or more related IT classified categories.
  • Advanced analytics, reporting and financial acumen skills.
  • Strong knowledge of category management processes & best practices.
  • Ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches.
  • Ability to solve problems that are not clearly defined and that require prior research, investigation and engagement of function leaders and peers in other areas to define and solve.
  • The ability to communicate and collaborate with other functions, regions and departments within Cox in alignment with Cox values and culture.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
Preferred:
  • University degree in Business, Technology, Supply Chain or related field.
  • Certification in Supply Chain Management (ISM), CPM or related.
  • Project Management certification (PMP), Lean or Six Sigma training.
  • Knowledge of the telecommunications marketplace, or extensive knowledge of a MSOs operations
  • Prior consulting experience
