The Atlanta or remote-based Director of Pay and Reward, is responsible for understanding Cox Automotives business needs and translating those needs into functional global technology solutions. This role will conduct business analysis, translate that understanding into setting the strategic direction and roadmap for a product set/suite, including all functional technology needs, and then set establish corresponding technology requirements In this role you will drive a range of projects, involving business acquisitions, designing system capabilities, workflows, and enhancements and supporting all HR systems. You will research and resolve complex issues and work directly with leaders in the business, other HR teams and Technology.

Your primary focus as will be on Payroll & Reward. In this focus area, you have responsibility to design and drive all mobile Payroll, Global Payroll and Reward technology strategies and systems for the Cox Automotive People Solutions Operations team. The scope of this role is global. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Set technology strategy and roadmap for Payroll and Reward in partnership with the Total Rewards COE and Solution Sets.
  • Design approach to functional needs and convert those needs into solutions and tools to support and enable the business
  • Establish roadmap and sequencing for technology installations and functional capabilities and enhancements, including the migration from on prem to cloud, and mobile solutions.
  • Lead programs and multiple large projects; design strategy, develop approach, establish program/project definition in partnership with business or COE sponsors; includes identifying scope, constraints, deliverables, and timelines; leading project implementations, facilitating project status meetings and ensuring status updates are complete.
  • Make recommendations regarding the design and development of new and/or modified systems, software and hardware; install new modules/programs; perform testing, system maintenance, training, and problem solving
  • Perform best practice analysis to determine the root cause of problems and issues; recommend and implement the best overall solution.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, partnering with key business users in all aspects of analysis, design and testing for system integration with HR systems.
  • Service as HR functional expert within the Payroll domain.
  • Develop critical working relationships with domestic and internal business owners and associated functional workstreams to understand enterprise requirements and contribute to application and process improvements.
  • Own relationship with customers and drive input into strategic roadmap for all things HR and Compliance, including but not limited to systems supporting areas tied to Pay and Reward, such as Self Service, HR, Compliance, Security, Benefits, Leaves, and Case Management.
  • Configure new or modify existing applications to meet changing requirements, or work with internal business partners for the system configuration.
  • Identify problems; serve as liaison with application vendors on problem resolution, application changes, and new functionality implementation.
  • Work with the Training department to develop end user training material for current and new functionality and/or processes.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements utilizing existing and new HR technology to improve the effectiveness of Human Resources operations.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the effectiveness of HR processes, systems, and reports.
  • Assist with review, evaluation, and implementation of revised Human Resources policies and procedures as they relate to HR technology.
  • Support communication/change management activities for projects and enhancements based on business needs.
  • Translate and document non-technical requirements into technical concepts with a comprehensive understanding of HR applications and technical interdependencies. Exercise good judgment in use of standards and technical documentation. Identify and include associated controls.
  • Identify, remove and resolve key barriers/issues through innovative solutions.
  • Continually assess business needs; recommend and implement measures that will ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded by enhancing system capability and performance.
  • Create and deliver presentations on specific system-related topics.
  • Provide functional guidance, advice and/or training to less-experienced HRMS staff.
  • Lead and manage a team.


  • Bachelors degree in human resources, information technology or a related field or equivalent combination of related professional experience and education
  • 10+ years experience with HR technologies
  • At least 5 years experience in a leadership role
  • 5+ experience with PeopleSoft HRMS or Workday/Oracle HCM
  • Demonstrate proficiency and interpret payroll concepts such as: earning code and tax calculations, shift rules, state specific overtime calculations and variant business setups.
  • Understand financial implications of different types of pay such as: commission pay, bonus pay, piece and flag pay, flat pay etc.
  • Be proficient at analysis and design of integrations between timekeeping and payroll system data load files
  • Stay abreast on CAI payroll processes and data entry practices
  • Experience reading and interpreting basic PeopleSoft, Time and Labor and Kronos Payroll and finance reports
  • Hands on experience leading full cycle payroll and reward projects
  • Compensation includes a base salary of $116,000-163,200
  • Salary may vary outside of the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the postion and the selected candidates experience.

  • Masters degree in related field a plus
