Role Summary

Cox Communications, Inc. is seeking a Vice President, Wireless Engineering. This transformational leader will lead strategy and architecture for a converged Wireless Access ecosystem to enable the wireless business strategies for Cox Communications. This individual will develop and lead the wireless engineering team charged with developing and deploying wireless architectures and managing relationships with strategic partners. The role will consist of engaging and partnering cross-functionally with the Retail Wireless, Strategy and Commercial Business organizations to define and develop the near- and long-term strategic platform requirements for FWA and mobility solutions. The scope of the platform requirements will span Retail Wireless Offload and FWA Solutions leveraging licensed and unlicensed spectrum inclusive of spectrum management and governance. This includes: leveraging the latest developments in the industry and introducing advanced wireless technologies; open architectures, design standards, procedures and methods to ensure high quality engineering; technology evaluation for potential partners; and leveraging in-depth technology experience in Wi-Fi, Private-LTE, 5G, LPWA/IoT, O-RAN, NFV/SDN, Cloud, etc.

The ideal candidate will have design, buildout, and operational experience in both RAN and Core technologies. The candidate should be highly skilled in developing low cost, future-state operating models and discovering and communicating strategic insights and findings to executive stakeholders. This role will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Engineering.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Serves as key member of Cox Network Engineering Team for the wireless solutions portfolio and subject matter expert for wireless technology performance.
  • Build and lead a team of high-performing engineering and operations resources
  • Establish the strategy for wireless architectures and solutions.
  • Incorporate industry leading technology developments in open and cloud architectures to enable cost effective and scalable solution platform environments
  • Develop a converged strategic architecture and solution to meet the needs of Cox Communications wireless business strategies
  • Champions the wireless convergence roadmap and ensure integration into overall strategic network vision.
  • Sets priorities and level of engagement in wireless industry specification and governance bodies.
  • Development of efficient and scalable operating models and solutions
  • CAPEX and OPEX budget forecasting, planning and management
  • Partner cross-functionally to develop a comprehensive architecture to achieve near- and long-term business requirements
  • Lead the vendor selection and contract negotiations for partner solutions and integration services - serving as the primary liaison for technology vendor management
  • Establish the management analytics and KPIs to monitor system performance and drive optimization




  • 10 or more years of experience required in related field (e.g. wireless engineering, architecture and operations)
  • 5+ years of experience in a management role (e.g. Sr. Director and above) in wireless telecommunications, technology, or software environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in establishing architectural and operational strategies in highly matrixed organizations
  • Requires strong knowledge of wireless industry technology developments
  • Deep expertise in wireless industry technology developments
  • Demonstrated success in applying data analytics and data science tools and techniques to optimize solutions and results
  • Executive leadership skills to direct and lead teams comprised of skilled professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong combination of knowledge in financial planning, management, and planning
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear and meaningful communications on the organizations vision and values to drive aligned decision making and actions
  • Ability to develop and engage in productive relationships with senior-level executives in matrixed, highly consensus-driven culture
  • Ability to build strong working relationships internally across functions and externally with vendors
  • Ability to translate multiple strategic priorities into effective implementation by assigning clear authority and accountability, coordinating communications, monitoring progress, and creating plans that align processes and resources
  • Knowledge of information risk management, cybersecurity and IT compliance technologies
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements


  • BS/BA degree in Engineering or related discipline strongly desired
  • 3 or more years of experience in a management role or leading cross functional projects preferred
  • Experience in telecommunications industry desired
