Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk.

The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Resiliency Solutions (RS) has an opportunity for an Operational Risk Manager to lead a team of Self-Assurance Activities team members within the RS Governance Group.  This manager will be responsible for managing and supporting self-assurance activities across the various RS programs. Specifically, working with complex business areas such as Currency Transaction Reporting, Customer Identification Program, Customer Data Management, Reg O, Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing ACT (SAFE), Enterprise Compromised Data, and other various groups.  

Key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing team of Operational Risk Consultants who execute self-assurance activities.
  • Supplementing existing practices through the execution of business monitoring, surveillance, and/or Quality Assurance/Quality Control activities.
  • Critically assess control design and ensure controls are working effectively in order to promote and enable proactive identification, root cause analysis, reporting, escalation, and corrective action of process and control deficiencies and adverse customer impacts.
  • Lead implementation of the RS Self-Assurance Activities methodology such as through the following requirements: 1) maintain procedures; 2) coordinate with business process maps in accordance with Business Process Risk Management Policy; 3) record and maintain a centralized inventory; 4) execute reporting, escalation, root cause analysis, and resolution of issues 5) inform risk measures, where appropriate; 6) inform the business’ self-assessment of related risks and controls per the Risk and Control Self-Assessment Policy.
  • Engage with senior management across RS’ functions to ensure risks are identified, managed, and remediated in accordance with the enterprise policy requirements including the Self-Assurance Policy.
  • Balance risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
  • Providing oversight to team members and RS functional areas regarding Self-Assurance Activities.
  • Managing any potential issues in the SHRP Issue Management tool and consulting with team members in the development of corrective action plans to effectively manage change.
  • Influencing management to identify, formulate, and implement policies, procedures, and controls for the respective RS functional areas to mitigate risk.
  • Drive operational excellence and change, as necessary.
  • Review and analyze monthly reporting to understand and address material deficiencies and weaknesses; inform RS management of issues through information sharing, reporting, and escalation.
  • Serving as subject matter expert in RS’ processes and Self-Assurance Activities.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 8+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 4+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
  • 3+ years of management experience

  • Experience managing issues in the SHRP Issue Management tool and/or consulting with team members in the development of corrective action plans to effectively manage change.
  • Ability to engage, consult, and influence senior management and leadership across multiple functions.
  • Critical thinker, self-directed with ability to influence change.
  • Ability to positively motivate and direct team members and the business, emphasizing individual and group strengths.
  • Strong thought leadership skills and experience managing a team.


Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
