Description of Position: Associate will assist in 1) managing state tax and compliance functions, 2) meeting all state and local tax compliance requirements related to 500+ legal entity structure 3) completing tax research and implementing tax strategies 4) driving the department workflow and 5) promoting cooperation and teamwork within the tax department as well as with other departments throughout the organization.

Primary Job Responsibilities:       

  • Assist in management of the tax department’s day-to-day operations of tax compliance and planning, including staff development and supervision
  • Analysis and review of tax calculations with an emphasis on multistate income and franchise tax filings, local filings, quarterly federal and state income tax estimated payments
  • Assist in identification and implementation of tax planning strategies and performing research on complex federal, state and local tax issues including but not limited to acquisitions, dispositions, tax return filing positions, payroll tax, sales and use tax (including “Wayfair” implementation), unclaimed property, and real property tax
  • Perform tax analysis and review computations for significant tax items such as equity compensation, fixed assets and lease accounting, and intercompany transactions
  • Perform detailed review of book/tax differences as needed
  • Compute and review multiple state calculations including state apportionment, state depreciation, deferred taxes, and state tax rates
  • Direct contact with the IRS and state taxing authorities including responding to notices as well as performing audit support services
  • Identification and evaluation of, as well as filing for, available tax credits and incentives
  • Assist in oversight of the SOX compliance process ensuring that financial and operational tax controls are performed Lead implementation of enhancements to processes and procedures related to evolution of the company, changes in the business environment, and tax law changes
  • Direct liaison with Accounting, External Reporting, Corporate Development, Legal and Operational teams
  • Other projects as required

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:              

  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, U.S. federal and multi-state tax laws
  • Strong proficiency in Excel desired
  • Data analysis and ability to leverage technology
  • Ability to perform a variety of broad and complex projects, manage multiple projects, set priorities and deliver
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and possess exceptional project management skills
  • Attention to detail, sense of urgency and critical thinking
  • Ability to identify and evaluate meaningful solutions and determine logical conclusion
  • Strong team management skills


  • BA or BS in accounting or related field
  • Masters in Taxation/Accounting a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • 4- 6 years of income tax or related experience
  • Public accounting experience a plus
