Maintenance Technician

Provide machine repair and maintenance to a wide range of equipment across the bakery using multiple tools and techniques. Perform preventative maintenance and beginning-to-end repair projects, performance measurement, troubleshooting and fine-tuning.

Understandings and Abilities:

  • Written and verbal skills to communicate and applicable math skills.

  • Ability to pass a qualifying test and maintain mechanic status in machine repair and maintenance services.

  • Knowledge and experience in installing and maintaining mechanical equipment.

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical techniques, methods, and procedures including:
    • Reading blueprints
    • Assemble and test-run machines and equipment
    • Operate mechanical hand tools, and drill press
    • Measure and correct shaft misalignment
    • Maintain production machinery and equipment, performing tasks such as replacing gaskets, packing and mechanical seals, bearings, etc.
    • Replace bearings using hand and power tools
    • Repair gearboxes and compressors
    • Replace and repair multiple types of air cylinders, conveyor belting and chain drives
    • Make on-the-job measurements using instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
    • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic/pneumatic system malfunctions
    • Ability to interpret schematic diagrams, communicate technical information
    • Working knowledge of LOTO procedures
    • Working knowledge of PLC s, VFD s and HMI s preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems from experience and knowledge of the equipment as well as knowledge of what resources are available for troubleshooting and where to get them.
  • Knowledge and application of safety, environmental, maintenance and quality guidelines, food safety standards, codes, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively utilize personal and desktop computers, as applicable.
  • Ability to train and guide other employees in the assigned areas.
  • Ability to work heights and in enclosed spaces.
  • Perform specified equipment inspection, compare findings with acceptance criteria and document findings.
  • Safely assist with other maintenance craftwork when needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience maintaining manufacturing systems and equipment in an automated plant. Food plant experience preferred.
  • Must have strong mechanical background in a production setting troubleshooting and repairing gearboxes, conveyors, sprocket/chains, belts, clutches, and brakes.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems up to 480v, 3 phase, read and interpret electrical drawings. Training and experience in use of Allen Bradley and Square D PLC's, VFD's, HMI, servos, etc. is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in use of all power tools, hand tools, welders, lathes, drill presses, etc. Strong plus if trained and experienced in compressed air systems, Boilers and Hydraulics.
  • Must be able to work any shift including weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in a Team environment with limited supervision.
  • May be required to work off ladders or other similar devices in high places with proper safety equipment.

  • Must be able to read English and follow written procedures

  • Ability to work off ground level with proper safety equipment

  • Ability to work in a non-air conditioned environment
