Inspector Entry Level

Perform vehicle inspections and prepare related documentation of overall vehicle condition in support of the processing and sale of client/customer consigned vehicles in lane and online.


Level is determined by performance and mastery of knowledge and skills measured through the Inspector Certification Program (ICP) 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify vehicle identification. 
  • Enter basic vehicle identification information to database. 
  • Inspect vehicle equipment and options and document results. 
  • Assess and enter any exterior vehicle damage. 
  • Inspect and enter condition of vehicle interior, tires, frame and mechanical components.  
  • Complete and verify data entry in support of documentation of vehicle condition. 
  • Collaborate with auto technicians to perform post sale inspections (PSI) and enter results in appropriate database following auction policies. 
  • Perform and document walk around inspections in support of online vehicle exchange (OVE) process. 
  • Review completed vehicle condition reports with inspectors – confirm and provide advice regarding report results. 
  • Attend meetings to share and receive job related information and complete training requirements. 
  • Locating proper options on ECR and in vehicle 
  • Locating emissions stickers on vehicle 
  • Reading paint meter, tire gauge, and ruler 
  • NAAA frame policy chart.
  • Choosing proper drop-down menus in ECR and IDIS (for audits) 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • ASE certification or background in automotive repair cost estimating preferred; ICAR Certifications a plus.
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record required. 
  • Basic computer software skills required. 
  • Ability to multitask required. 
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • General knowledge of body and mechanical work preferred. 
  • Helps peers with questions and problems 
  • Trains and educates representatives and customers; explain why/how things were written or assessed 
  • Troubleshoots issues with Tough Book (hardware and software issues) 
  • Uses computer to complete ECR 
  • Uses and troubleshooting other electronic devices (ex. Paint meter) 
  • Logs time in KRONOS 
  • Choose appropriate tool for job (ex. flashlight, paint meter, tire gauge, ruler, knee pads) 
  • Know how to use equipment effectively and correctly 
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear. 
  • Frequently required to Crouch down to look at side or underneath car, Strength to open up hood or trunk, Crouching, bending while performing audits, Ability to reach inside or underneath vehicle 
  • Trunk Strength, Lifting, Kneeling, Squatting, Standing all day, Bending over, Getting under vehicle 
  • Near vision abilities required include: Find dings and scratches, Find paint work, Hail damage, Frame/Unibody, Other exterior damage, Interior damage 
  • Ability to find previous repair (ex. differences in color, shade, quality of paint job) 
  • Identify exterior or interior colors 
  • Ability to deal with different lighting (i.e. exterior and interior lighting; natural and artificial light)

Experience:

Previous body shop experience, mechanical experience, estimating experience a plus, but not required.
