Cox Enterprises is hiring a Strategy & Corporate Development Manager to join our team.

The Strategy & Corporate Development team’s responsibilities include strategy development, portfolio monitoring, management and evaluation, diversification, capital allocation, and evaluation and execution of strategic transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, investments and/or joint ventures. As a member of the team you will immerse yourself in developing new growth opportunities for the business. You will conduct research to develop investment theses, lead ongoing investment efforts and help Cox’s start-up ecosystem efforts in Atlanta, including the Cox-sponsored Techstars accelerator. You will become a member of a tight-knit group of people in a collaborative and supportive environment, working to develop and execute the best investment ideas. Specifically, you will:

 
  • Research industries, new technologies and megatrends to develop investment theses; areas where we have made recent investments include cleantech, healthcare, esports, and fintech
  • Research companies and make compelling, insightful recommendations for investment or acquisition
  • Manage and support the internal investment and acquisition process, lead the evaluation and execution of investment, acquisitions and joint venture opportunities
  • Support Cox’s start-up ecosystem efforts around Techstars, Engage and the Bridge Community
 

Skills required for success in this position include, but are not limited, to:

  • Research and analytical competence: Gather, process, assimilate, analyze, summarize, and develop insights from vast amounts of information – whether qualitative or quantitative

  • Financial literacy: Understand financial statements and accounting and tax policies; develop and utilize analytical models for financial projections and business valuation

  • Intellectual Curiosity and judgment: Interest in learning and exploring; ability to determine and focus on “what matters”

  • Project management:  Lead or manage teams focused on the completion of specific projects or tasks, with clear definition of objectives and the steps and timing required for completion

  • Interpersonal flexibility: Collaborate effectively with teammates and colleagues across the company and with external resources. 

  Responsibilities:

  • Develop market research to support and validate strategy development, investment & acquisition recommendations

  • Evaluating acquisition and investment opportunities, including assessing market size, growth, segmentation and overall attractiveness, customer interviewing, detailing competitor strengths and weaknesses, and evaluating new technologies

  • Building detailed business and financial models of proposed transactions/strategies and various target valuation scenarios, including market forecasts and evaluating synergy opportunities

  • Participate on and/or lead cross-functional internal teams and work streams (e.g., due diligence), including external resources, on strategic transactions or priority projects

  • Managing proposed transactions, including serving as an active participant in the deal negotiation process, preparing term sheets, managing extensive due diligence, developing definitive agreements, disclosures, and other deal documents, managing internal communications and approval processes

  • Create presentations, memoranda, and related analyses that effectively communicate and support recommendations

  • Understand Cox’s operating division strategies, industries, and competitive dynamics

  • Collaborate with Cox’s operating divisions on strategic and growth initiatives, as appropriate

  • Help identify and evaluate and execute strategic diversification opportunities

  • Support Cox’s initiatives in the Atlanta venture ecosystem

  • Develop and nurture external relationships of potential value in meeting the team’s goals

  • Help develop and mentor team members to support the team’s goals and individual professional development goals

  • Represent the company at external conferences and events.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant functional experience required which includes corporate development/M&A, private equity, consulting and/or investment banking.

  • Experience managing cross-division and cross-functional teams of key functional leaders and subject matter experts.

  • Strong presentation (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to positively interact with senior management and external partners.

  • Excellent negotiation, analytical and research skills.

  • Highly organized with strong ability to multi-task and manage competing projects simultaneously.

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or related field required

  • MBA/Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or related field preferred

  • CPA, CFA, or comparable certifications (desirable)

  • Work experience at professional services firms (e.g., investment banking, consulting, accounting) (desirable)

  • Strategic thinker with business acumen, good judgment, and common sense

  • Passion for identifying opportunities and problem solving

  • Robust analytical and critical thinking skills, strong attention to details

  • Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and project teams

  • Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills

  • Able and willing to take initiative and work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects

  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and balance multiple and/or conflicting priorities

  • Desire to excel in fast-paced, cross-functional, and results-oriented work environment

  • Must be able to travel up to but not limited to 20% for the position.
