Job Description:

The Release Manager is responsible for participating in the design of the technical release, planning, coordinating, managing, communicating and delivery of application releases. The Release Manager is responsible for aligning business requests, enterprise technical direction, and priorities to define application releases that meet organizational goals.  Coordination with other application teams to participate in integrated release efforts. Participates in the planning and implementation of infrastructure upgrades and refreshes.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience managing software releases and experience as an agile scrum master, product owner, or portfolio manager.

The Release Manager is the owner of all end-to-end activities and artifacts in the SDLC and the key communicator between all members of the team (Business Process Owners, Business Annalists, Quality Assurance Teams, Project Management Office, Infrastructure Platform Services, Production Support teams, and others). This person will lead the successful delivery of releases from the planning phase all the way to Production implementation and monitoring. In addition, this individual will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to monitor release status, identify and remediate issues, validate completion of all release activity, and escalate risks and issues as required.

  • Manage release definition and scope negotiation. Actively work with Business representatives and Technical teams to review priorities and perform capacity sizing to scope releases     
  • Build out project milestones, evaluate dependencies, and schedule work to meet the release Go Live date
  • Facilitate meetings with Business Leads, PMs, & IT leads, to track release status
  • Coordinate code readiness and promotion through environments. Work with Code Promotion Team, Application Leads, and Infrastructure teams to verify release packages, code merges, code staging, code quality, and environment readiness throughout the complete life cycle of the release
  • Coordinate non-production environment data refreshes and software builds/deployments
  • Work closely with the BA and Architectural Teams to ensure requirements and design is completed and meets business needs
  • Work closely with Development and QA Teams to oversee the completion of code reviews, unit testing, release test plan, test scripts, automation, performance.
  • Work closely with Business Leads and PMO to oversee User acceptance testing and sign off
  • Manage the change control process. Perform risk and impact analysis of changes and consult all related teams. Communicate risks, mitigation plans, and action plans
  • Prepare and manage all release deployment artifacts for the successful implementation of the release in Production. Includes implementation plans, schedules, communications, conference calls, etc
  • Manage post productions issues to closure and perform appropriate hand offs 
  • Conduct lessons learned, and produce scorecards on release activity
  • Ensure that policy, regulatory and control requirements are met though execution of standard transition checklists and procedures
  • Ensure all applications documentation is managed, ensuring that sign off is received at each phase of the test cycle

Continuous Improvement:

  • Contributes to continuous improvement and promotes leverage of successful products and processes from across Technology
  • Proactively supports knowledge sharing within the Application Service Delivery team and across Technology
  • Regularly holds information sharing sessions
  • Documents new process improvements and shares with team members

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified above
  • 2+ years in a similar role, e.g. release manager, program manager, Portfolio manager
  • Proven success and accountability in leading and managing small to large scale application delivery
  • Strong ability to establish effective working relationships and contribute in a team environment
  • Confirmed experience and business acumen to partner and collaborate with business stakeholders
  • Strong Leadership Skills to drive teams towards successful delivery of release plans and that motivates team to achieve and maintain quality in a creative and effective manner
  • The ability to develop relationships with vendors and users
  • Be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communication
  • The ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of users and subject matter experts within all levels of the company
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Desired Job Skills:

  • Experience with ITSM Remedy
  • Experience with SDLC tools such an JIRA and XLRelease.
  • Agile Scrum knowledge/certification
