ResponsibilitiesNSA's mission is to help protect national security by providing policy makers and military commanders with the intelligence information they need to do their jobs. NSA's priorities are driven by externally developed and validated intelligence requirements, provided to the NSA by the President, his national security team, and their staffs through the National Intelligence Priorities Framework. NSA Intelligence Analysts are expected to take an inclusive approach to problem solving and mission accomplishment by frequently engaging with partners, enablers and customers across the Intelligence Community. Description of Position Intelligence Analysts have the power to influence world affairs. They provide the most complete possible foreign signals intelligence picture to U.S. policy makers and military commanders, and seek creative solutions to answer analytical questions. Intelligence Analysts are at the forefront of implementing NSA's mission, and they do so in a variety of ways: - Research and understand foreign intelligence targets, how they operate and how they fit in the larger geo-political context - Apply new techniques and develop creative solutions to address analytic problems such as synthesizing large volumes of data and disparate sources of information - Demonstrate a firm understanding of the communications environment and technology trends of foreign intelligence targets - Craft written assessments of foreign intelligence that provide unique insight into target intentions unavailable from other intelligence disciplines - Work independently and collaborate effectively (both within NSA and with other analysts in the Intelligence Community) in research, analysis, and reporting
SkillsThe ideal candidate is intellectually curious, has a strong desire for learning and is also: - well-organized and able to handle multiple assignments - a strong written and oral communicator - able to synthesize information to solve complex problems - able to work effectively across several different functional areas in a collaborative environment - able to provide timely and accurate customer service Coursework, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following is desired: - Critical foreign languages - Computer science or networking - Cyber security - Data modeling, mining, or science - Metadata analysis - Quantitative / Statistical analysis - Research methodology - Social network analysis - Telecommunications - Target development - Topical or Regional studies relevant to national security Relevant Internships, extracurricular activities, and/or foreign study are also considered. Prior military without a degree but with intelligence analysis cryptologic experience will be considered.
Pay, Benefits, & Work ScheduleOn-the job training, Internal NSA courses, and external training will be made available based on the need and experience of the selectee. Monday - Friday, with basic 8hr/day work requirements between 0600 and 1800 (flexible). NSA hires for a variety of locations to include: Maryland, Georgia, Hawaii, Texas, Colorado, and other locations.
Mandatory Qualification ReqsSalary Range: $69,581 - $108,422 (Full Performance) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience. Degree in a liberal arts field (e.g., English, History, Communications, Languages and Cultures, International Relations, and Political Science) is preferred, but a degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in aspects of intelligence analysis (e.g., target development, social network analysis, and metadata analysis). Note: For development program hires, the experience requirement may be met with more general analytic, problem solving, and/or investigative experience. Salary Range: $99,172 - $152,352 (Senior) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 10 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's plus 8 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree plus 2 years of relevant experience. Degree in a liberal arts field (e.g., English, History, Communications, Languages and Cultures, International Relations, and Political Science) is preferred, but a degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in aspects of intelligence analysis (e.g., target development, social network analysis, and metadata analysis). Salary Range: $137,849 - $166,500 (Expert) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 13 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 11 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 7 years of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree plus 5 years of relevant experience. Degree in a liberal arts field (e.g., English, History, Communications, Languages and Cultures, International Relations, and Political Science) is preferred, but a degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in aspects of intelligence analysis (e.g., target development, social network analysis, and metadata analysis).
